Copy editing prices versus a package
Copy editing prices and line-editing prices fail when the quote never says how many rounds, or whether proofreading is included. AuthorShelf’s $799 figure is one combined SKU: copyediting plus proofreading. Developmental work is the separate $380 line.
A self publishing package ($399–$2,989) is the better buy when you also need a cover, an interior, and distribution setup. Editorial depth increases by tier. A package does not automatically include both à la carte SKUs above. Read the tier before you assume Spark includes an $799 copyedit. Most debut authors who need production as well as editing start at Launch ($597) or Pro ($997).
À la carte editing lives with the rest of the author services catalog. If you only need one pass and you already have a cover and interior, buy that pass.
