Amazon KDP Submission Guidelines: Files, Cover, and Metadata

Amazon publishing submission guidelines (KDP) are file and metadata rules. Amazon will not edit the book. If the file fails spec, the title does not go live — or it goes live looking wrong.

What KDP checks

  • Interior: trim, margins, fonts, images (print PDF) or a valid eBook file
  • Cover: eBook image size, or a print wrap with correct spine
  • Metadata: title, contributors, description, categories, keywords, price
  • Preview: you are supposed to actually read it

Amazon’s help pages are the legal spec; they change. This is the production translation. Walkthrough: how to publish on KDP · POD formatting.

When a package is the guidelines

If you do not want to learn two cover calculators and an EPUB quirks list, AuthorShelf production includes files and retail setup in listed packages. You still approve eProofs. You keep 100% of net royalties from Amazon sales.
