Print-on-demand formatting means interiors and covers built to a printer’s spec so a copy can be made when someone orders it. If the gutter, spine, or PDF version is wrong, the upload fails — or the book arrives looking amateur.
What POD formatting actually includes
- Trim size (5.5×8.5, 6×9, etc.) locked before the cover spine is calculated
- Margins and gutter that survive binding
- Embedded fonts, image resolution, and a print-ready PDF
- A wrap cover: front, spine width from final page count, back, barcode area
