A weak Amazon book description wastes a good cover. Readers who clicked still need a reason to keep going. This is marketing copy, not the back of your thesis.
A structure that works
- First two lines — genre + the human problem or desire (visible before “Read more”).
- Stakes — what breaks if the character (or reader, for nonfiction) fails.
- Specifics — setting, unique mechanism, or promise. Avoid “in a world where…”
- Proof, not superlatives — comparable titles, your credentials if they matter, not “soon to be a major motion picture” unless that is true.
What to leave out
- Spoilers and chapter summaries
- Keyword stuffing that reads like a tag cloud
- Claims you cannot defend (“#1 bestseller” from a two-hour category game)
