Project Stages Explained

Every book follows the same six-phase workflow in your Author Portal. Open Projects → View Details on any title to see where you are and what’s next.

New here? Read The Process for the full journey overview.

Phase 1

Project Setup

Your project is created when you complete the New Title wizard and checkout (or when a package order is linked to your account). Title metadata, package selection, and agreement acceptance all happen here.

Your part: Complete New Title setup and confirm your package. This phase typically auto-completes once setup is finished.

Phase 2

Manuscript & Editorial

Upload your manuscript and any reference materials. Developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading included in your package run in this phase.

Your part: Upload files on time and respond to editorial tasks in the workflow panel.

Phase 3

Design

Cover design and interior formatting for print and eBook. Review concepts, share feedback through tasks or Messages, and approve direction before proofing.

Your part: Review concepts promptly so proofing can begin on schedule.

Phase 4

Proofing & Approval

Review your eProof (and physical proof if ordered). Use Approve or Request Changes on the task when you are ready.

Your part: Proof carefully. See Approvals and Revisions for round limits and tips.

Phase 5

Production & Distribution

Final files, ISBN/metadata lock, and distribution upload. Major title metadata changes are locked after this phase — plan updates before final approval.

Your part: Confirm final approvals so your title can move toward live listing.

Phase 6

Marketing & Post-Publication

Marketing materials, launch prep, and go-live. Once live, royalty tracking begins in your portal.

Your part: Check Royalties, Reports, and Dashboard → My Things To Do for next steps.
